Creating a Monthly Budget

Home Keys and MoneyBudgeting is never fun. We all like to think that we have a lot of money and that we can afford the thing we want to do without any problem. Most of the time, this works out for most of us. When it comes to really big occasions, though, like having a wedding, it is important to have a set budget to make sure that you don't spend out of your means and start off your new life with the added stress of being in the hole financially.

There are a couple of areas as far as weddings go where couples will need to look at creating a budget. The first is in paying for the actual costs of the wedding, and the second is within the wedding itself. The first budget will take into account the various factors within your life that must be paid for on a monthly basis, while the wedding budget will take the total amount saved according to your monthly living budget and break the costs of each part of the wedding (such as the dress and the catering) down so that you know what percentage you would like to spend.

Everybody is different in what they bring in each month and in their expenses. In today's society, a lot of us are trying to live up to an impossible standard set by a wealthy few. They make it look easy and affordable to put on a wedding with all the bells and whistles, but the fact is that for most of us it is not. Careful planning is required in order to meet all your expenses and not go into the hole. The following are areas to consider when planning a monthly budget that will determine how much you can set aside for your wedding costs.

Prenuptial AgreementRemember, all budgets are based on the total amount of income you can expect each month, which is usually a set figure. In order to determine how much you can save each month for the wedding, you will have to determine which areas in your life require fixed amounts of money every month and then decide how much of your "flexible" money you want to put aside for the wedding.

There are several factors which will effect how much money you can save for your wedding each month. Couples who each live with their parents, for example, will not have to worry about areas such as rent or food when laying out their monthly budgets. This frees up quite a lot of saving money; just remember that after you get married, you will have to cover these costs on your own, so you might want to start planning ahead!

Many other couples live together prior to getting married, so they too will find that their rent costs may be less than other monthly budgets in proportion to their monthly incomes.

Other areas which will put some limitations on the amount that can be saved are whether or not the couple has loans to pay, the amount of insurance that is required (car, home, life), and the general lifestyle of the individuals. Usually, when determining a budget, lifestyle options are where people can save the most money.
