Insure One of Your Most Expensive Days?

Wedding ChurchInsurance seems to be a way of life in the world today, and it seems as though weddings have not escaped the sales pitch of wedding insurance. With weddings costing over $20,000 on average, it really is no surprise that couples are becoming more interested in making sure their costs are covered in case any accident occurs. There are a number of things that can go wrong and cause the wedding to be delayed, and the right insurance will help to cover the costs in case anything does.

The downside of wedding insurance is that it does cost money that will be needed to add into your wedding budget. The good news is that the charges are not too high; premiums are anywhere from $100 to $500, and of course it is unlikely that your premium will ever go up, since you (knock on wood) will only have one wedding. Policies can be bought for almost any wedding plan, from intimate gatherings to large affairs to destination weddings. Let's have a look at some of the items typically covered by wedding insurance.

Types of Insurance
Illness: One way in which your wedding can be delayed is if illness strikes a key member of the proceedings. Insurance policies will cover the costs of having to postpone the marriage in this event, whether illness strikes the officiant, the bride or groom, or members of their family.

Venues: Most venues that you will look at for your ceremony or reception will have their own insurance policies. In case you select one that does not, wedding insurance can cover damage that results from fire or other accident, including personal injury claims.

Weather: Rain on your wedding day? Well, that's no longer cause for bad news if you have insurance. Most policies will cover the costs of rescheduling if the weather turns bad on you.

Plus…

There are also several riders that can be purchased with the policy, which will have additional charges and will be specific to the type of wedding you want to have (travel wedding insurance, for example, will cover the costs of your gown in case you are having a destination wedding and your luggage is lost).

One thing to keep in mind is that if your wedding does need to be postponed, having insurance will cover the costs but it is likely to be a much smaller affair. Insurance will not help your guests to recoup their expenses and make up for the scheduling they had to do to get to your wedding. Some people might think that if the guests can't attend, then the hassle of rescheduling the whole event might not be worth it, and thus insurance has no real point.
